Following cities are located within a radius of 300 km:
Situated in the national road nr 4 (E-40) in Korczowa close to the biggest road border crossing between the European Union and Ukraine.
The biggest border crossing point between European Union and Ukraine is situated on the National Road No 4 (E-40) in Korczova. To extend international roads (highways) connecting countries of the European Union and Ukraine (Korczova - Kracowiec), investments are planned for the years 2010 - 2012. A wide variety of goods from diff erent countries moves through the border checkpoint Korczova - Kracowiec both in west-east and east-west directions and thus creates importexport fl ow.
export: Russia - 19,4%, Turkey - 10,1%, Italy - 6,5%, China - 7,1%, USA - 5%. import: Russia - 33,9%, Germany - 12,9%, Turkmenistan - 6,8%, Italy - 5,5%.
The checkpoint Korczova fully serves the transit of trailers, cars and autocars. It provides round-the-clock border, customs, veterinary, phitosanitary, sanitary-epidemiologic control and quality control of imported food. The rate of economic growth in Ukraine is very high. Prospects of the Ukrainian economy for the years 2005-2010 are also promising. Trade cooperation between Poland and Ukraine is desirable and economically benefi cial.
Poland occupies 7th place for its share in Ukrainian export (3.5%) and 3rd place for its share in import (3.2%). Cooperation with Lviv region was and remains economically attractive for Subcarpathian voivodeship.
If to consider recent changes and their infl uence on the strategic interests of the country, we can see very positive tendencies. Foremost, we must point to the increase of production in Poland and the European Union, improvement of international competitiveness, price policy, and currency exchange rate. All these changes are due to the demand growth in Poland.
If we consider Russian, Ukrainian and some other economies we can also see positive changes. Effi cient tendencies in economies are restored. As a result of preparation process to the WTO accession, Ukraine liberalized its external trade. Import tariff s for some groups of goods were reduced in the context of preference agreements with the EU. These tendencies will strengthen because Ukraine wants to improve its image in the view of future negotiations for associative membership. Poland should use these circumstances and support Ukraine in its eff ort. It also covers support on the regional level.
Despite some diffi culties, Polish producers are interested in transferring production process to Ukraine (economy of labour costs, new market for products). This can include both joint investments to organize production process in Ukraine using local raw materials and to process imported raw material. The spheres that attract most foreign investments are: food industry, production of building materials and house equipment.
Goods are imported in Poland by road, rail and air.
Retaining achieved rates of economic growth and expecting progress of economic reforms creates promising prospects for trade and economic cooperation between the European Union, Poland from the one side and Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Belarus etc. from the other. Paramount importance has stabilization of hryvnya, development of bank and insurance systems, improvement of banks condition, and opportunity to have bank guarantees. Prospect changes in the privatization process (e. g. recent information about reconsideration of privatization of 3,500 enterprises) bring in diff erent speculations. Reduction of the enterprise profi ts tax, promotion of small and medium production and trade businesses, which are strategic partners for most Polish companies trading with Ukraine, development of the wholesale network and network of markets, liberalization of external trade (implementation of modern approaches concerning trade and international cooperation within the limits of WTO accession activities, introduction of a new customary code, and improvement of conditions to attract foreign investments) will cause positive eff ects.
In connection with the presence of Poland in the EU it is necessary to take advantage of new opportunities, and prospects of the Commercial Centre of INTUR company in Korczowa, for example, the fact that some Polish and foreign companies can supply the needs of export and import of products from other EU countries making use of the knowledge of language, mentality of business partners and a good knowledge of the eastern market as well as the knowledge of the world market economy.
